Ideal Candidates

Breast implant removal or replacement is needed when scar tissue hardens around the implants. Pain, discomfort, signs of implant leakage, or breasts that look different than they once did can all be addressed with this procedure. A rare cancer called breast implant-associated anaplastic large-cell lymphoma can also make it necessary to have this procedure done.

Implant Replacement Procedure

This procedure is commonly performed under general anesthesia. During the operation, Dr. Aronowitz will make an incision around the perimeter of the areola or under the lower fold of your breasts. He will then remove the implants and scar tissue and add the new implants. Stitches, tape, or skin adhesives will close the incisions.

Treatment Outcome

After surgery, you must wear a special support bra or compression garment for several weeks. This will help reduce swelling. You may also have small tubes called drains placed under your skin.

These tubes will drain excess fluid and blood. The tubes can be removed after a few days. It is important to avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks following the procedure.
