Our Approach to Healing.
All living things are endowed with a remarkable ability to heal. However, local or systemic factors sometime interfere causing open wounds to become chronic. Local factors such as the location of the wound on the lower leg, near a moving joint, in an area of prior radiation treatment, chronic edema or existing scar may be important in delaying wound healing. Systemic factors which may impede wound healing include poorly controlled diabetes, immobility, peripheral vascular disease, severe anemia, smoking, and use of certain medications, such as anticancer drugs.
We are experts in the healing process and understand the factors which affect wound healing. Our philosophy is to nurture the normal wound healing process and bolster the natural tendency of the body to mend using a combination of attentive medical care and the latest proven techniques available for the treatment of problem wounds.
We begin with a thorough assessment of the local and systemic factors involved and design an individualized, comprehensive plan of care that brings you the most appropriate and effective treatments. We are able to provide for office visits as frequently as needed to control a worsening wound and to train the patient or caregiver for the wound at home.
Does Insurance Cover Treatment?
Most health plans and medicare cover Wound Care Center treatments when medically necessary, properly ordered by a physician, and documented in the standardized wound care flow chart. We will determine insurance coverage for specific treatment modalities and pre-authorize when necessary.
Do I Have to Change Doctors?
Not at all. The Wound Care Center works closely with the personal physician to coordinate wound care with overall medical care. We keep the referring doctor informed on all aspects of your treatment with frequent progress reports. Our role is to achieve full healing of the chronic wound while the referring physician manages the patient's overall medical care.
