When scarring occurs, many people want to remove or reduce the appearance of the scars. Dr. Aronowitz uses a unique series of treatments to remove scars and help the skin to heal without blemish. After the scar removal procedure, Dr. Aronowitz uses Prineo tape and Embrace scar therapy, as a part of a three-step system, to guide the healing process during the healing process to reduce the appearance of any scarring. The doctor uses a special, medical-grade tape worn for two to three weeks following surgery to help the skin. Next, Embrace silicone dressings are applied by our trained staff every 2 weeks for a total of 4-6 weeks to control and minimize the development of any new scar tissue. After Embrace therapy our patients are placed on a regimen of bioCorneum®+ scar gel, a silicone-based medicine, to protect the fresh scar tissue from the elements and sun exposure. Finally, Dr. Aronowitz provides IPL treatment to reduce any remaining redness and pigmentation once the healing is complete. This option is a good choice for patients with scars associated with injuries or surgery including a tummy tuck, breast reconstruction, breast lift, breast reduction, and arm lift.
IPL, or intense pulse light, treatment is often used to treat uneven facial redness, discoloration, broken capillaries, brown spots, spider veins, and is also used to reduce the appearance of mild to moderate scars. The concentrated pulses of light cause a chemical change within the skin cells. This procedure is very safe and non-invasive. There is little to no downtime so treatment can easily be scheduled around work and social activities.
Patients will see a reduction in the appearance of scarring following treatment. If the original scarring was mild to moderate, Dr. Aronowitz may remove all signs of any skin damage. Deeper or more severe scarring is usually significantly reduced to the point of not being noticeable by others.
