The botulinum toxin is injected in tiny quantities into areas of the face where 'rhytides,' otherwise known as 'dynamic wrinkles,' are problematic. The action of the toxin, although temporary, impedes the function of the targeted facial muscles. This allows the overlying skin to smooth out preventing the wrinkles from becoming deeper.
Treatment is repeated after 3 to 4 months. Over time, the muscles may become weaker and injections may be needed less frequently. Botox is a refreshingly simple non-surgical treatment, which provides dramatic results.

Because the paralysis of the facial muscles is temporary, re-injection is usually necessary within 3 to 10 months.
